Knowledge Base on HIV/AIDS Care: Cooperative Agreement
Initiative Impact Knowledge Items

Initiative Impact

  • Initiative Impact 01: Total Patients Enrolled
    Final.
Approximately 5,000 men and women with HIV/AIDS have been served by the 27 Cooperative Agreement Projects. Portions of this Knowledge Base derive from data on the treatment experiences of these 5,000 individuals.

  • Initiative Impact 02: Total Trainings Conducted
    Final.
Approximately 2,600 trainings have been conducted for service providers and others who work with men and women with HIV/AIDS. Portions of this Knowledge Base derive from data on the 2,600 trainings, many of which tested innovative methods for improving the skills of HIV/AIDS service providers.

  • Initiative Impact 03: Total Individuals Trained
    Final.
About 10,000 individuals have been trained by these projects. Portions of this Knowledge Base derive from data on the 10,000 individuals trained and the way in which they used the materials presented to improve the quality of HIV/AIDS services.

  • Initiative Impact 04: Total Quality of Life Assessments
    Final.
About 2,000 of the HIV/AIDS patients received a detailed quality of life assessment as part of their involvement with these projects. More than half received two or more such assessments at different times in their treatment histories. Portions of this Knowledge Base derive from data provided by the clients of the innovative service models tested by these projects.

  • Initiative Impact 05: Pregnant Women Served
    Final.
Several hundred pregnant women with HIV/AIDS have been served by these projects using innovative methods of maximizing the health of both the woman and her child. Such methods include minimizing the transmission of HIV from mother-to-child using pharmaceutical prophylaxis and social supports to encourage good perinatal care. Portions of this Knowledge Base specifically address the issues of the needs of pregnant women with HIV and ways of maximizing outcomes for these women.

  • Initiative Impact 06: Diversity of Individual Clients Served
    Final.
The projects represented here have served a very high percentage of women and a diverse blend of communities and affected populations. Portions of this Knowledge Base specifically ask if the services developed are equally effective for groups of individuals who may enter the service system from traditionally underserved populations who face significant barriers to receiving quality care.

  • Initiative Impact 07: High-Need Populations Enrolled in Services
    Final.
The projects represented here have served high need populations who tend not to have to be insured, to be persons of color, to not speak English as their primary language, to have less than a High School education, to use various drugs (heroin, crack cocaine, alcohol), to have young children that must be cared for while the parent is undergoing treatment, and to have unstable housing. Portions of this Knowledge Base specifically address how to engage such people in care and keep them in care while maximizing outcomes.

  • Initiative Impact 08: High-Need Indicators Among Populations Enrolled in Services
This Knowledge Item shows the levels of each of these issues for newly enrolled clients in each year of the funding cycle.

  • Initiative Impact 09: Total Patients-Clients Enrolled in Medical and Psychosocial Programs
    Final.
Approximately 5,000 men and women with HIV/AIDS have been served by the 27 Cooperative Agreement Projects. Portions of this Knowledge Base derive from data on the treatment experiences of these 5,000 individuals. This Knowledge Item shows the number of individuals with HIV/AIDS enrolled in medical or psychosocial support programs funded by this initiative. Note that clients in the psychosocial support programs had linked medical services.

  • Initiative Impact 10: Major Needs and Vulnerabilities of Patients at Individual Projects
    Final.
This Knowledge Item presents the characteristics of the service population at each project in terms of indicators of service need and vulnerability.

  • Initiative Impact 11: Enrollment into Triple Combination Therapies and Needs
    Final.
This Knowledge Item studies the timing of introduction of patients with different patterns of service needs and vulnerabilities into triple combination therapy.

  • Initiative Impact 12: Maintenance of Health and Functioning: Mean Time Until Decline
    Final.
Estimates were made of the time that projects were able to maintain the medical and psychosocial health of their patients-clients from the time of enrollment.

  • Initiative Impact 13: Biweekly Census of HIV/AIDS Clients Receiving Services from Psychosocial Support and Integrated Care Models
    Final.
This Knowledge Item shows steadily increasing client involvement in psychosocial support services from October 1994 to March 1999.

  • Initiative Impact 14: Overall Recommendations
    Final.
These recommendations were written by George J. Huba, Ph.D., Lisa A. Melchior, Ph.D., and Abigail T. Panter, Ph.D., of The Measurement Group, based upon the cumulative set of findings given in this Online Knowledge Base on HIV/AIDS Care.

  • Initiative Impact 98: Patient Outcomes
    Final.
This Knowledge Item presents medical and psychosocial outcomes from the 27 Cooperative Agreement Projects.

  • Initiative Impact 99: Major Achievements and Lessons Learned at Individual Projects
    Final.
This Knowledge Item presents the statements of each project about its major achievements and the lessons it learned in implementing and providing innovative HIV/AIDS services.
