Prediction of Most Recent Total Quality of Life from Baseline Quality of Life and Total Symptom Severity

Recent quality of life is primarily a function of baseline quality of life. Information about baseline symptom severity is not necessary to know in addition to information about baseline quality of life. The amount of time that passes between the baseline quality of life assessment and the final quality of life assessment is positively related to final quality of life: overall, participants increase in their quality of life as time passes.

In interpreting this Knowledge Item, and all others in this section on Quality of Life and Health, remember that the ratings of quality of life, symptom impact, and healthcare utilization are based on patient self reports.
