Self-Reported Healthcare Utilization at Enrollment and Service Needs-Vulnerabilities

This Knowledge Items shows the distribution of self-reported health care utilization in the prior month for a group of patients who are newly admitted to the programs. Most of the patients have had a moderate level of involvement with the healthcare system prior to their enrollment in these programs.

With the exception of phone contacts with providers, men and women utilize the same number of services. Women do call health care providers more often. Clients newly admitted to the psychosocial services were just slightly more likely to say that they had had hospitalizations and home health care visits in the prior month.

In interpreting this Knowledge Item, and all others in this section on Quality of Life and Health, remember that the ratings of quality of life, symptom impact, and healthcare utilization are based on patient self reports.
