Time In Program Until Initiating HIV Services
Cox regression for proportional
hazards ("survival analysis") was used to study the time between program
enrollment and the receipt of the first episode of HIV Services (risk assessment, pre- and
post-test counseling, antibody test, prevention, and/or non-specified HIV-related
services) for 2063 clients in seven programs. Combining data from ten programs, the
mean
estimated time until receiving HIV services is 328.57 days (standard error =
15.51 days).
The median time until receiving HIV services is 4.00 days. Many clients do not need such
services, but those that do receive them quickly.
While some clients entering these programs do not need HIV testing and
related services or those related to risk counseling, those that do tend to receive the
services soon in their treatment episodes. For the 1508 clients who received
these services, the median time until obtaining them was one day and the average time
until receipt was 63.75 days (standard error = 4.21 days).
Note: This
curve shows the time until a service is received. Since one would
ideally wish to see every client who needs a service receive it, an
ideal curve would very rapidly drop to 0 indicating that everybody who
needed a service received it.
