Pregnant Women Served

The Cooperative Agreement Projects targeted individuals with HIV who may not appear in traditional service populations because of linguistic, racial, gender, and other barriers. Pregnant women with HIV face a variety of barriers including those relating to their pregnancy. Because of recent advances in cutting the transmission of HIV from a woman to her newborn, enrolling pregnant women with HIV is a priority for many of these projects.

Between the start of funding on October 1, 1994, and the final data summary including information through June 15, 1999, the Cooperative Agreement Projects have enrolled a total of 131 pregnant women with HIV/AIDS.

In targeting high need individuals with HIV/AIDS for enrollment into services, a significant number of pregnant women have been enrolled.

Note: The 131 women were pregnant at the time of enrollment into the program. Twenty additional women (for a total of 151 pregnant women served) became pregnant during the course of their service episode or had their pregnancy detected within the program.
