Welcome to the TMG Site

We at The Measurement Group would like to welcome those who have come to explore our web site.

In operation since 1988, the mission of The Measurement Group is to use state-of-the-art research techniques to evaluate existing social and health programs, thereby allowing better programs to be designed. Many different federal agencies, as well as the State of California and local governmental entities, have funded our work in this area.

During our organization's first nine years, research and evaluation activities have focused on improving programs for substance abuse treatment, and the social and medical treatments of HIV/AIDS. In this role, there are several major areas in which we have worked to improve service delivery through evaluation and dissemination. First, our evaluations have focused on residential and outpatient programs combining HIV, mental health, and substance abuse services. Second, we have examined programs targeted to youth, women, people of color, and other underserved or disenfranchised groups. Finally, we have evaluated and enhanced programs that provide direct client services, as well as those that aim to develop a broader community-based infrastructure for services.

Our contributions to these processes have included developing methods to ensure that community members representing diverse segments were empowered to help design these programs; developing methods for ensuring that the strengths and weaknesses of existing programs were honestly and accurately captured in both quantitative indices and qualitative observations; and implementing ways of disseminating the results to the communities in which the services are provided.

This web site presents different parts of our experience during the first years of our company. We are proud of the accomplishments portrayed here. We invite you to know about them, and hope that you will provide us with your reactions to our work and our attempts to tell you about that work.
